Vent panels are essential industrial safety devices that protect equipment and structures exposed to unexpected overpressure conditions. Their primary function is to release accumulated pressure in a closed system, such as a tank, reactor, or duct, by opening instantly upon detecting excessive pressure, thus preventing structural damage and potential accidents.
How Vent Panels Work
When overpressure occurs within industrial equipment or compartments, the trapped air or gas tries to expand rapidly. If this pressure is not relieved, it can cause structural failure of the equipment or, in extreme cases, explosions. Vent panels provide a controlled release point for this excess pressure by creating an immediate opening, minimizing the risk of system or facility damage.
Unlike safety valves, vent panels do not close again once activated. They are single-use devices that break or displace upon reaching their predefined pressure point, creating an opening through which the excess pressure can escape.
Design and Materials
Vent panels are available in various configurations, such as rectangular, square, or circular, and can be constructed from materials like aluminum and stainless steel, often coated with fluoropolymers to withstand harsh or corrosive environments. Depending on the design, some vent panels are also made in a composite style, utilizing layers of different materials to withstand cyclic pressure changes, such as oscillations between positive and negative pressure.
In scenarios where pressure cycles are frequent, such as in gas or flammable dust storage systems, composite-style panels like CP (Composite Panel) models provide greater durability and resistance to these fluctuations, ensuring reliable operation.

- Powder Storage Systems: For industries like pharmaceuticals or food processing, where powders can generate explosions due to rapid combustion.

Additionally, some models may integrate a Burst Disc Indicator (BDI) alarm system, which signals when the panel activates, allowing for immediate response.
